(You were closer to me than my own breath ... yet I failed to recognize you)

Main man ka andhera bhaga na saka
(You light shines in every heart ... yet i failed to drive away the darkness of my heart)

Bhavayami Gopala Balam

Annamaiya (Annamacharya) , the teuglu saint was born with a gift for poetry and song. He composed beautiful keerthana's on Venkateswara and was always preoccupied by Him.

Annamayya's considered his songs as "flower-offerings" to God .
He praises Venkateswara, describes his love for Him, argues and quarrels with Him, meditates on His attributes, confesses his failures and apprehensions, and surrenders himself to Him.

One beautiful keerthana written by Annamaiyya described the Lord as little krishna learning to walk

Bhavayami Gopala Balam ... Mana Sevitham ,
Tat padam chintayeyam sada
(This mind bows down in obescience to Gopala in his form as a little child and always contemplates on his lotus feet)
kati ghatitha mekhala , khachita mani ghantika
(Little Krishna is wearing a mekhala (ornament) on his hip which is studded with with jewels and mani's)
Patala ninadena vibharaja manam
(he has a radiant charm ...and appears resplendent due to the tinkling of his ornaments)
kutilapada ghatitha samakula chintitenam
(he makes crooked and uneven steps and being the Lord himself ....
he is confused with his inability to make straight and proper steps)

chatula natanam samujala vilasam
(Even with his uneven steps , his unsteady gait resembles a graceful dance!)
niratakarakalita navaneetham
(butter overflows from his little hands as he walks,)
bramhadi ,suranikara bhavana shopitapadam
(Lord Brahma, all the gods and humans have assembled on this auspicious occassion
to see the little lord ! )
thiruvenkatachala sthitam anupamam harim
paramapurusham gopala balam

(Annamaiyaa praises Bala Gopala as the unparalleled supreme perfect Lord who is an excellent actor and plays his role of a little child stealing the hearts of his devotees! )

Lord Buddha

Its a great pleasure to listen to the lives of saints... but it is best to hear about a saint from a saint ... Because only a saint can truly realise the worth of another saint ...

Gurumaa often talks of Lord Buddha ... One of the many stories she tells

One evening Lord Buddha was preaching to his disciples , and a small girl came from somewhere and stood in front of him.
He asked her ... " Where do u come from?"
She answered " I know yet I don't know"

He then asked her ..." Where are you heading to?"
She answered " I know yet I don't know"

People around thought the girl was out of her mind and said so too
Lord Buddha smiled and said.... "she is the only sensible one among you all"

He then asked her "Why do you say that?"

She said ..."You asked me from where have i come ... i know i have come from my home , so i said i know"
" But i dont know where i came from , when i was born into this world, thats why i said i dont know"
"I know i am headed towards my home, so i said i know"
"But i dont know where i shall go after this life, thats why i said i don't know!"

Do we know where we come from and where are we heading to?

Dive deep O Mind!

Dive deep, O mind, dive deep in the Ocean of God's Beauty;
If you descend to the uttermost depths, There you will find the gem of Love.

Go seek, O mind, go seek Vrindavan in your heart,
Where with His loving devotees Sri Krishna sports eternally.

Light up, O mind, light up true wisdom's shining lamp,
And let it burn with steady flame Unceasingly within your heart.

Who is it that steers your boat across the solid earth?
It is your guru, says Kubir;
Meditate on his holy feet.

Friend Hope for the Guest :)

Friend, hope for the Guest while you are alive.
Jump into experience while you are alive!
Think...and think... while you are alive.

If you don’t break your ropes while you’re alive, do you think ghosts will do it after?

The idea that the soul will join with the ecstatic just because the body is rotten -- that is all fantasy.

What is found now is found then.If you find nothing now, you will simply end up with an apartment in the City of Death.

If you fall in love with the divine now, in the next life you will have the face of satisfied desire.

So plunge into the truth, find out who the Teacher is,
Believe in the Great Sound!

Kabir says this: When the Guest is being searched for, it is the intensity of the longing for the Guest that does all the work.

Look at me, and you will see a slave of that intensity.

A tribute to saints

This blog is dedicated to saints ...mostly from India but also from all over the world...

Dedicated to the brightest flowers in the garden of the Lord

to begin with a few lines from Swami Rama's book ,' Living with the Himalayan Masters'

"Do you know why we touch the feet of a sage?"

A persian belief - "A sage gives the best part of his life, surrendering it at the lotus feet of the Lord.

People normally recognise you by your face- but the face of the sage is not here , it is with his Lord.

People find only feet here , so they bow to the feet."
